About Rachael Stern MSW

Rachael Stern MSW. Queer, and neurodivergent therapist for MD, DC and VA.

About Social worker Rachael Stern, MSW

Rachael has spent her career both in and out of the therapy room working to dismantle systems of oppression, pulling apart what doesn’t work, and crafting structures that treat people better. Rachael has spent her career both in and out of the therapy room working to dismantle systems of oppression, pulling apart what doesn’t work, and crafting structures that treat people better. Whether this is treating yourself better, your partner(s), children or doing your own work to make the world a better place, Rachael is a solid partner in change. She deeply enjoys the work alongside her clients in claiming/reclaiming their space in the world both physically and metaphorically.

The status quo tells us we can’t trust ourselves, our knowing, or our bodies. Rachael believes that our innate knowing - when we can access it, is not only the gold we seek, but the light we shine for ourselves and in the world around us.

From clinical experience with eating disorders, self-injury, trauma, chronic pain, couples and larger family systems,  ethical non-monogamy, kink and the entirety of the LGBTQIA umbrella to professional work in issue focused non-profits and campaigns (and even performing), Rachael is deeply in tune with the political and social ecosystems that our intersectional identities transverse on a moment to moment basis and is committed to be a lifelong student learning about her client’s unique identities and what these mean for their experience of the world and the world’s experience of them.

Rachael received her MSW from New York University and has additional training in Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, and more.

Rachael is deeply committed to an anti-racist, HAES celebratory, anti-ableist, sex positive practice.

I’m a Supervisee in Social Worker and Sex Therapist in Maryland and Virginia. My passion is helping individuals and couples carve their own paths to sexual fulfillment, love, and relationships. I believe that true fulfillment in life comes from embracing who you are and giving voice to your sexual desires and expressions—because sexual satisfaction shouldn’t be just a fantasy, it can be your reality.

In my practice, I support clients who are exploring and navigating new sexual experiences and interests, including polyamory, ethical non-monogamy, kink, and BDSM. I also address challenges such as low or shifting desire, communication barriers, and navigating dating. No matter what you bring to therapy, my goal is to empower you to cultivate healthy, nourishing intimate relationships that reflect your authentic self.

I take an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from Emotion Focused Therapy, attachment theory, and more, because one size doesn’t fit all. I strive to maintain a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore, learn, and grow—where there’s no room for judgment, just an open invitation to step into your fully sexually expressed and satisfied self. By mastering communication, honoring boundaries, and celebrating your unique relationship models, you can unlock deeper growth, self-expression, and intimacy. Let’s work together to make your vision of sexual fulfillment a reality.
