To confirm coverage please contact member services by phone or checking your online member portal.
Here are the questions to ask when you call:
1. Ask if the practice with NPI number: 1225799653 , is covered on your plan.
2. Please note the date, time and name of the representative you speak to. This helps with payment of denied claims.
3. Ask about your out of pocket costs, also known as: copay, co-insurance and deductibles for procedure codes 90791 and 90837.
For all other insurers, with an out of network policy, we are happy to provide you with an invoice for reimbursement or complimentary billing.. The reimbursement for a session varies depending on your insurance plan. Session fees must be paid at the time services are rendered. Which would be charged to your card on file with the practice.
Currently most insurers do not reimburse for sessions focused on couples/relationship and many sex related issues, as they are not considered medically necessary. In limited cases we can provide you with an out of network invoice to receive a possible reimbursement or provide complimentary billing, if you prefer. But in these cases we cannot guarantee reimbursement.
Insurance is vague in their guidelines to clinician's about what is considered couple's therapy, how it is billed, how the notes should be written to be covered, and what the focus should be. There are times that couples therapy can be covered by insurance. In those instance the focus of the sessions must be on one identified client, covered by the insurance, who has a diagnosis that is considered medically necessary to treat. The other person is present to provide collateral information and or to support the identified client's treatment. So for example, the identified client is diagnosed with depression and the sessions are focused on treating the depression.
Partnered sessions were the focus is on topics like, but not limited to: pre-marital, determining relationship fit, building better communication, opening up a relationship, managing a kink dynamic, parenting, increasing sexual satisfaction, relationship growth, etc. would be examples where the client is the couple not one individual.
Sex therapy where the focus is on gender dysphoria, pain with sex, sexual trauma, or where there is a physical health diagnosis causing dysfunction in sexual health are often covered by insurance.
If you are unsure of whether your therapy needs would be covered by insurance please email us with your questions or to schedule a consultation.
We intentionally hold spaces for those who identify as kinky, ethically non-monogamous, LGBTQIA, sex workers, gender non-conforming and or BIPOC. If you are in need of sliding scale please contact your desired therapist to inquire about openings. When contacting us, please send a few words about your current interests in therapy or coaching, what your financial barriers are, what communities you are a part of and (if applicable) the type of insurance plan you have.
As of July 2025, we have a intern, Keren Alvarado, who is offering low cost therapy sessions. $30 for individual and $50 for partnered sessions. She also offers sliding scale. You can find her bio under the Clinicians tab.
