Joanna Brooke is a counseling intern at George Mason University who approaches therapy from a social justice–oriented, liberatory framework. As a queer, neurodivergent, and disabled clinician, she is passionate about supporting clients who have been marginalized or excluded by traditional mental health systems. She specializes in LGBTQ+ (especially transgender and gender-diverse), neurodivergent, disabled, fat, and kink-affirming care. Joanna creates a welcoming, collaborative space where clients can explore their identity, navigate life transitions, process anxiety or trauma, and build self-efficacy and resilience for the future.

I approach therapy as something we build together, not something I prescribe. Therapy with me doesn’t have to look one specific way; it might be online, in-person, or on a walk, whatever works best for your needs. My approach draws from emotion-focused therapy, narrative therapy, and internal family systems, alongside skills and support from DBT. I focus on helping you understand your emotions and experiences and build a more compassionate relationship with yourself. My hope is that this work helps you move through the world with confidence, clarity, and a deeper sense of agency in your life and relationships.
As an intern I work under my supervisors license. My supervisor is the practice owner Asha Gray LPC.
